We have all heard about massages, but what are they exactly and how many different ones are there? Massages are techniques from different cultures that help cure pain and illnesses.
Here they are listed from a-z:
* Acupressure – a Chinese medicine technique applies pressure to the acupuncture of the hands, elbow, and other certain body parts.
* Shiatsu – an eastern born therapy that uses pressure with the fingers, thumb, and palm or techniques such as rolling, brushing, vibrating, grasping, and Yamamoto.
* Ayurvedic Massage – it originated in India and is also known as Abhyanga, it uses yoga, meditation, and herbal remedies.
* Balinese Massage- a gentle technique that uses skin rolling, kneading, etc.
* Bowen Therapy – a rolling movement over the fascia, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints. Australian Tom Bowen developed this.
* Breena massage – rhythmical, gentle leans, and stretches.
* Champissage massage – a technique that focuses on the head, neck, and face.
* Esalen Massage – gentle rocking of the body, and passive joint exercises and deep structural work on the muscles and joints.
* Hilot massage – helps relax stressed muscles, used to reset dislocated and sprained joints, diagnose and treat musculoskeletal aliments, even aid in giving birth.
* Jacuzzi – high-end relaxation hot tub with jets.
* Lomi Lomi Massage – traditional massage of Hawaii.
* Medical Massage – has many different therapies some of them are decongestive therapy, carotid sinus massage, and ventriacular tachycardia.
* Myofascial Release – stretching the fascia and releasing bonds between fascia, integument, and muscles.
* Anma – traditional Japanese massage that involves kneading and deep tissue work.
* Reflexology Massage – massaging, squeezing or pushing parts of the feet, hands, and ears.
* Russian Massage – three stages the first and third are both slow and gentle with the second being faster, deeper, and harder.
* Hot Stone Therapy – uses cold or water-heated stones to apply pressure and heat to body.
* Swedish Massage – five long flowing strokes: Effleurage (light touch), Petrissage (kneading), Tapotent (rhythmic tapping), Friction (compression), and Vibration.
* Thai Massage – combines massage with yoga-like positions.
* Trager Approach – combines movement, massage, and education.
* Trigger Point Therapy – involves stimulating hypothetical trigger points.
* Visceral Massage – practiced in many Latin American countries.
* Watsu – a massage done in skin temperature water.
